Team Purvines’ Gary Sutherlin, Cooper Abbot and Destry Abbot destroyed their respective classes at the WORCS event held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas this last weekend using ARC levers to get the job done. The race went through the parking lot, into the arena, and back out for an unusual take on an offroad event. After starting in fourth place, Sutherlin moved to the lead on the paved part of the course, to head into the stadium in first. After that, he held it open lap after lap to finished uncontested at the line, moving into first place in the standings.
In the Pro 2 Lights, Cooper Abbot started outside of the top five, and quickly ARC’d his way up to second place, then passing for the lead in the Endurocross section. After gapping the field, he rode in for the win, moving up to second place in the standings.
An inspiration for all, Destry Abbot, (the DA8 in the name of the team) decided to race for the first time since being diagnosed with, treating, and fighting Leukemia. He used his ARC levers to get the holeshot, and led his race from start to finish, bringing home a much lauded victory on his first race on a Yamaha for Team Purvines.
Back in California, Team Purvines/DA8 rider Nick Burson fired up his Yamaha to race the AMA District 37 event in Spangler Hills, not far from his house. After dicing with a few of the other riders for the top spot heading into the singletrack, Burson took the lead, secured a gap, and rode the 80-mile course cleanly to take the win.
